Dear Pioneer Community,

On behalf of the staff at Southbridge Middle/High School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2014-2015 academic year.  We look forward to a productive partnership with students, families and the community to ensure that Southbridge Middle/High School takes additional steps towards higher levels of academic achievement, civic engagement and artistic and athletic accomplishments. We recognize that in order to be successful, our students must benefit from support from all members of the community. We know that strong partnerships will make a great difference in our students’ educational experiences. As partners, we share the responsibility for our students’ success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our duties as administrators, teachers, coaches and mentors.

We ask that you guide and support our students’ academic experience by ensuring that all students attend school daily and arrive on time and prepared to learn.  This year, we will place additional administrative resources and school-wide focus on student attendance and dress code compliance.  Your cooperation as we establish a new culture will be greatly appreciated.

I feel privileged to be a part of the Southbridge family. I thank you for your support and look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

Melissa Earls

Southbridge Middle/High School Presents “Bully”

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

SMHS presents “The Bully Project: Fostering Empathy and Action in Schools”

·         The Middle School
Assembly will begin during E-block.  Students in grades 7 & 8 will view the PG – 13 version of the film.

·         Students in grade 6 will view the version for younger audiences after lunch.

Overview of the Documentary: This year, over 13 million American kids will be bullied at school, online, on the bus, at home, through their cell phones and on the streets of their towns, making it the most common form of violence young people in this country experience. BULLY is the first feature documentary film to show how we've all been affected by bullying, whether we've been victims, perpetrators or stood silent witness. The world we inhabit as adults begins on the playground. BULLY opens on the first day of school. For the more than 13 million kids who'll be bullied this year in the United States, it's a day filled with more anxiety and foreboding than excitement. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1682181)

For More info visit: www.thebullyproject.com

If you would like your child to opt out of the assembly please email Ms. Caprera at: a.caprera@southbridge.k12.ma.us
